Instructions:
- Prepare the Bottle:
- Select a bottle with a narrow exit hole, like a Coca-Cola bottle. Cut it approximately in the center, around the point where the bottle tightens. Other plastic bottles with similar features can be used as well.
- Create the Mixture:
- Pour 300 ml of hot water into the base of the bottle. Ensure the temperature does not exceed 40°C to preserve the viability of the yeast. Add 4 tablespoons of sugar and stir until dissolved. It’s essential not to add both elements simultaneously to prevent the premature release of carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
- Introduce the Yeast:
- Allow the water to cool slightly, and when it drops below 40°C, add a cube of yeast or 25 grams of powdered yeast. Mix the ingredients thoroughly.
- Assemble the Repellent:
- Take the top part of the bottle and insert it upside down into the other part containing the mixture. If placing the repellent outdoors, secure the two parts of the bottle together with a bit of tape. Change the mixture every three or four days.
This cost-effective mosquito repellent can be crafted for approximately 25/30 cents. Rest assured, this DIY solution offers an effective way to keep mosquitoes at bay!
