How to clean a comforter that doesn’t fit in the washing machine

Spending around a third of your life under a duvet explains why it is so important to wash it regularly. The main difficulty with washing a comforter is that it probably won’t fit in the washing machine. If you don’t have access to an industrial washing machine, you will need to find another solution.

 

Fortunately, there is a method to clean it at home and inexpensively. These are the steps to follow.

Cleaning a comforter that is too big for the washing machine

1. Preparation of the natural purifying bath:

  • Start by soaking your comforter in the bathtub filled with warm water.
  • Then add: a small cup of soda crystals, a small cup of white vinegar and a small cup of detergent or Marseille soap.
  • Let it act all night.
  • The next day, rub the stains and then rinse the comforter well.
  • Squeeze out the duvet with someone’s help. If the filling is facing down, avoid twisting the comforter too much.
  • All you have to do is hang it outside to dry naturally.

2. Other tips for cleaning a large quilt by hand:

Cleaning with baking soda:

Form a paste of baking soda by mixing the product with equal parts of water, rub it in the bathtub or large basin, let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse.
