A football player from Cameroon lost his life in a terrible car accident. During his career, he played in Ligue 1. The accident happened in his home country. His vehicle allegedly hit a truck. The footballer was only 38 years old and the father of three children.
The death of a well-known Ligue 1 player
The world of football is in mourning. One of the most famous Ligue 1 players has just lost his life at the age of 38. It was his club which announced the terrible news on social networks. The footballer died in a tragic car accident on June 27. The collision took place in Cameroon, the victim's country of birth. The latter leaves behind his wife and three children. It is indeed Landry Nguemo. He was one of the pillars of the Cameroonian selection. The footballer played for three French clubs including AS Saint-Etienne, Girondins de Bordeaux and AS Nancy-Lorraine.
Football clubs pay tribute to him
The AS Nancy-Lorraine club, with which Landry Nguemo won the League Cup in 2006, did not hesitate to pay tribute to him on social networks. They wrote: “It is with immense sadness that we learned of the tragic death of Landry N’guémo this Thursday, June 27. AS Nancy Lorraine sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.” Then, they added: "Landry arrived at the ASNL training center at the age of 16, he played with the first team between 2005 and 2011 winning, among other things, a League Cup. After retiring professionally, Landry returned to the club as coach of the U16 team with the desire to 'pass on his knowledge and experience to the kids. Rest in peace Landry. FC Girondins de Bordeaux, for its part, wrote: "The Club learned with sadness of the death of Landry Nguemo. Victim of a traffic accident in Cameroon, the former Bordeaux player passed away at the age of 38. FC Girondins de Bordeaux Bordeaux sends its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."
