Laon: What we know about the accident which caused the death of four children

, aged 9 to 13 years old. The facts date back to July 28, 2020, around 3 p.m., in Laon, in Aisne. Indeed, a dangerous collision took place between several vehicles, including a passenger car, a van and a heavy goods vehicle such as a dump truck, on the RN2 on the Vervins – Soissons axis in Laon (Aisne).

According to the first known information, the passenger car, in which four children and an adult were present, was hit at the front by the heavy goods vehicle, then at the rear by the van, before catching fire. The driver, mother of one of the children and aunt of the three others, was extracted from the vehicle with the help of witnesses. The children could not be saved because of the virulence of the flames.

It’s awful,” he continued. And added: “Watching the children and not being able to do anything is shocking. I didn't sleep all night. Even then, I am strong within myself, but I want to cry." “There were several of us trying to open the doors, they were blocked. We tried to bend them from above... With bare hands, it was already difficult, but the fire was very violent, and with the flames growing it became impossible,” Aurélien, a motorist, told the Parisian present at the time of the events.
