“I couldn’t do it anymore…”: Marion Rousse confides in a very difficult period with her companion Julian Alaphilippe

for both bike enthusiasts. A story which will very quickly give birth to little Nino in 2021. The latter has a first name that is anything but chosen at random. It is in fact a tribute to Marion Rousse’s grandfather who, as his name suggests, was of Italian origin.

The journalist had also explained the origin of this first name in the columns of Le Parisien: “Agreeing on a first name is never easy,” she reminded the daily. And we both really liked this one. It was the first name of my maternal grandfather, who came from an Italian family. It was the blink of an eye.” The birth of their son in 2021 was experienced as true happiness by the couple at the end of an enchanted year. What followed was, however, much less bright, with 2022 having been much more complicated. Julian Alaphilippe has indeed experienced a series of disappointments which have taken a toll on his health and his morale, even more so. The setbacks began in March with severe bronchitis, before a fall in a ravine at more than 70 km/h, ending with Covid in July.

A series of mishaps which cost him his place on the big loop. This absence was a real blow for the French champion who was banking heavily on this Tour to shine. Like all high-level athletes, the entourage is essential, and that of Julian Alaphillipe was put to the test during this delicate period. Marion Rousse thus returned to these complicated moments. “It’s true that it took a while for him to bounce back. He couldn’t show what he was capable of because he was stopped in his tracks by falls,” she explained.
MARION ROUSSE REACHES THE END OF HER RESOURCES
The journalist tried to be as present as possible for her companion despite the fact that she was “just as affected as him”. However, she admitted to having reached the end at one point. She explained: “I tried to reassure him, to comfort him, but after two years I could no longer find the right words.” Before concluding: “I think that Nino, our little boy, helped us a lot to get through this bad period.” A happy ending like in any good romantic comedy.
