Ingredients
For the Steaks:
1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio recommended)
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 egg
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Prepare the Hamburger Steaks:
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
Make the Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, whisking constantly, to form a roux.
Gradually pour in the beef broth, whisking to prevent lumps.
Stir in Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
