Introduction
If you've ever attended a potluck and wondered how one dish manages to steal the show, this is the recipe for you. My Amish friend brought these delightful bars to a recent gathering, and they were an instant hit. Sweet, chewy, and rich, they embody everything you'd want in a crowd-pleasing dessert. With simple ingredients and easy preparation, you’ll be making these for every occasion.

Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups packed brown sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
Add Mix-Ins: Fold in the chopped nuts and chocolate chips, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.
Bake: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared baking pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares or rectangles.
Serving and Storage Tips
Serving: These bars are perfect as-is but can be elevated with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze them for up to 3 months. Simply thaw at room temperature before serving.
