Introduction:

Cornet Pogača is a beloved traditional pastry that has been passed down through generations. Its flaky, golden-brown crust, paired with a soft, fluffy interior, makes it a perfect addition to any meal or a delightful snack on its own. This timeless family recipe offers the perfect balance of simplicity and indulgence, bringing warmth and comfort to the table. Whether served with a cup of tea, as an appetizer, or as a side dish, Cornet Pogača is sure to become a cherished favorite in your home.

Ingredients:

500g all-purpose flour
250ml lukewarm milk
10g dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
100g unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs (one for the dough, one for brushing)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
1 tablespoon vinegar (for the dough's elasticity)
Directions:

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy.

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, melted butter, oil, one egg, and vinegar. Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour.

Let the Dough Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Pogača: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each piece into a ball. Then, roll each ball into a thin round disc. Roll the discs into tight cones (or cornet shapes), ensuring the ends are sealed tightly.

Prepare for Baking: Place the formed cornet pogače onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush each pastry with the second beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if desired.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the pogače for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crisp.

Cool and Serve: Remove the pogače from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.

Serving and Storage Tips:

Serve Cornet Pogača warm with your favorite beverage, or alongside a hearty soup or salad.
For the best taste, enjoy them fresh from the oven, but they can also be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days.
To reheat, simply place the pogača in a preheated oven for about 5-10 minutes to restore its crispness.
