Introduction
Keeping your oven clean doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With the right techniques and ingredients, you can maintain a sparkling oven with minimal effort. Whether you're battling grease, burnt-on food, or general oven grime, these simple yet effective tricks will have your oven shining like new. Plus, with these easy-to-follow cleaning methods, you can ensure your oven stays in top shape, improving cooking efficiency and extending its lifespan.
Ingredients:
Baking Soda – A natural abrasive that helps lift grime without harsh chemicals.
White Vinegar – An effective degreaser and deodorizer.
Lemon Juice – Helps to break down grease while leaving a fresh scent.
Water – Used to form a paste with baking soda and dilute vinegar.
Dish Soap – For general washing and to assist in removing residue.
A Scrub Brush or Sponge – Essential for scrubbing stubborn areas.
Old Towels or Rags – To wipe and dry surfaces.
Spray Bottle – To apply the vinegar solution.
Directions:
Preparation
Remove all oven racks, trays, and any other removable parts. Lay them aside for cleaning.
Create the Cleaning Paste
In a small bowl, mix about ½ cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water to form a thick paste. Add more water if needed to get the right consistency.
Apply the Paste
Spread the baking soda paste generously on the inside surfaces of the oven, avoiding heating elements. Focus on areas with stubborn grease or food spills. Let the paste sit for 15–20 minutes to allow it to loosen the grime.
Clean the Oven Racks
While the paste is working, soak your oven racks in a bathtub or large basin filled with warm water and a few tablespoons of dish soap. Let them soak for 30 minutes, then scrub them with a sponge or brush.
Wipe Away the Paste
After the paste has had time to sit, dampen a cloth with water and begin wiping away the baking soda paste. Use a scrub brush for any stubborn spots.
Spray Vinegar
In a spray bottle, mix equal parts water and white vinegar. Lightly spray the inside of the oven where the baking soda paste was applied. The vinegar will react with the baking soda, creating a fizzing effect that helps lift any remaining residue.
Final Wipe Down
Once the fizzing subsides, wipe the inside of the oven clean with a damp cloth. Use a dry towel to give it a final polish.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Keep the Oven Clean Longer: After cleaning, use a silicone liner to catch spills and crumbs in the future. This will make your next cleaning session much easier.
Storage: Store your homemade cleaning solutions (baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice) in airtight containers, away from direct sunlight, for future use.
