The Glass Method: A Simple Guide to Degrease, Disinfect, and Freshen Your Dishwasher

Introduction:
Over time, dishwashers can accumulate grease, soap scum, and unpleasant odors, affecting their efficiency and leaving your dishes less than sparkling. Fortunately, the glass method offers a natural, effective way to degrease, disinfect, and perfume your dishwasher, leaving it fresh and clean without harsh chemicals. By using simple household ingredients, you can restore your dishwasher’s performance and ensure that every load of dishes is spotless.

Ingredients:
1 cup white vinegar
1/2 cup baking soda
1-2 drops of essential oil (e.g., lemon, lavender, or eucalyptus) (optional)
1 empty glass or cup
Directions:
Prepare the Dishwasher: Start by ensuring your dishwasher is empty of any dishes. Remove any visible debris from the bottom or filter to avoid clogging.

Vinegar Step: Place the empty glass or cup on the top rack of the dishwasher. Fill it with 1 cup of white vinegar, then run a hot water cycle. The vinegar helps break down grease, disinfect, and neutralize odors.

Baking Soda Boost: After the vinegar cycle is complete, sprinkle 1/2 cup of baking soda across the bottom of the dishwasher. Run another short hot water cycle. The baking soda will help further deodorize and clean any remaining grime.

Essential Oil Scent (Optional): For a pleasant fragrance, add 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil to a cotton ball or a clean dish sponge, and place it in the dishwasher during the final cycle. This will help give your dishwasher a fresh scent.

Serving and Storage Tips:
After completing the cleaning cycles, allow the dishwasher to air out for a few minutes before using it again.
It’s best to perform this cleaning method once a month to maintain your dishwasher’s cleanliness and performance.
Keep your dishwasher's filter clean by washing it regularly to ensure maximum effectiveness during every wash cycle.
