Ingredients
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter, plus more for brushing
1 teaspoon salt
2 ½ to 3 cups all-purpose flour
Directions
Activate the Yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
Mix the Dough: Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in the flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Knead: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-16 equal portions. Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a clean towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes, until puffed.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Finish: Brush the tops with melted butter immediately after removing them from the oven.
Serving and Storage Tips
Serving: These rolls are best served warm. Pair them with soups, stews, or a smear of jam for a touch of sweetness.
Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven or microwave for a freshly baked taste.
Freezing: To freeze, wrap rolls individually in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature and warm before serving.
