Preparing the Pot: Select a pot with good drainage holes to prevent water from stagnating at the bottom. Ginger plants dislike sitting in waterlogged soil. Fill the pot with a well-draining, loamy potting soil that is rich in organic matter. Aim for a container that is about 12 inches deep.
