Introduction: Tiramisu is a beloved Italian dessert known for its creamy texture and rich coffee flavor. However, for those who crave something a bit more refreshing, this zesty Lemon Tiramisu is a perfect twist on the traditional recipe. With a balance of tangy lemon and rich mascarpone, this dessert offers the same smooth and indulgent layers but with a burst of citrus that will tantalize your taste buds. Perfect for summer gatherings or a light after-dinner treat, this Lemon Tiramisu is an easy-to-make dessert that delivers an unforgettable taste experience.
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups heavy cream
1 cup mascarpone cheese
½ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons lemon zest (freshly grated)
½ cup fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
24 ladyfingers (savoiardi)
½ cup lemon syrup or lemon juice mixed with water (for soaking the ladyfingers)
Optional: Fresh mint leaves or lemon slices for garnish
Directions:
Prepare the Cream Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until well combined and fluffy.
Soak the Ladyfingers: In a shallow dish, combine the lemon syrup (or lemon juice with water). Briefly dip each ladyfinger into the syrup, making sure not to soak them too long, as they should remain firm but moist.
Assemble the Tiramisu: Layer the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9x9-inch (or similar-sized) serving dish. Spread a layer of the lemon mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out evenly. Repeat the process, adding another layer of soaked ladyfingers and then another layer of the cream mixture, finishing with a generous layer of cream on top.
Chill: Refrigerate the dessert for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Serve chilled and garnish with fresh mint leaves or lemon slices for an added pop of color and flavor.
If you need to prepare the dessert in advance, Lemon Tiramisu can be made up to two days ahead and stored in the refrigerator. The longer it chills, the more the flavors develop.
For individual servings, you can layer the dessert in small cups or jars for a charming presentation.
