Introduction
Over time, the tray of your washing machine, especially the detergent and fabric softener compartments, can accumulate soap scum, mold, and mildew. Not only does this create an unpleasant odor, but it can also affect the cleanliness of your laundry. Fortunately, there’s a simple and effective method to keep your washing machine tray spotless. In this article, I’ll share a cleaning tip that worked wonders for me and will help you maintain a fresh and odor-free washing machine.
Ingredients:
White vinegar
Baking soda
Warm water
A soft cloth or sponge
An old toothbrush (optional)
Dish soap (optional)
Directions:
Remove the Tray
Start by removing the detergent tray from the washing machine. Most washing machine trays can be easily taken out by pulling them toward you. Be sure to check the machine's manual if you're unsure how to remove it.
Soak the Tray
Fill a basin or the sink with warm water and add a cup of white vinegar. Place the tray in the solution and let it soak for about 15 to 30 minutes. The vinegar will help break down soap scum, mineral deposits, and any mold or mildew buildup.
Scrub Away Residue
After soaking, use a soft cloth or sponge to scrub the tray gently. For any stubborn residue, use an old toothbrush to get into the small crevices. If necessary, add a small amount of dish soap to help dissolve any grease or grime.
Clean the Tray Holder
While the tray is soaking, don’t forget to clean the compartment where the tray sits. Wipe it down with a cloth soaked in warm water and vinegar. If you notice mold or mildew buildup in the holder, use the toothbrush to scrub it clean.
Rinse and Dry
Once you’ve scrubbed away all the dirt and buildup, rinse the tray thoroughly with clean water. Dry it completely with a cloth before placing it back into the washing machine.
Maintain Regularly
To keep your washing machine tray in good condition, repeat this cleaning process once a month. It will prevent buildup from forming and ensure your laundry stays fresh.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Keep the Tray Dry: After cleaning, always make sure the tray is completely dry before reinserting it into the washing machine. Moisture left inside can lead to the growth of mold and mildew.
Routine Checks: Regularly check the tray for any signs of buildup or residue. A quick wipe-down every few weeks can prevent more extensive cleaning in the future.
