Introduction
We've all been there—craving that nostalgic, savory bite of a McDonald’s cheeseburger. But here’s the twist: I always ask for a McDonald’s receipt… not because I need proof of purchase, but because it serves as my secret blueprint. That little slip of paper reminds me exactly what I love about the experience—and challenges me to recreate it even better at home. This recipe brings together everything you love about the classic cheeseburger, with fresher ingredients, richer flavors, and that perfect fast-food flair—no drive-thru needed.
Ingredients:
For the Burger Patties:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 is ideal for juiciness)
Salt and black pepper to taste
A few drops of liquid smoke (optional, for that grilled taste)
For the Assembly:
4 plain hamburger buns (soft and lightly sweet)
4 slices of American cheese
Dill pickle chips
Finely chopped white onions
Ketchup
Yellow mustard
Optional:
Butter for toasting buns
Lettuce and tomato for a fresher twist
Instructions:
Shape and Season the Patties:
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal balls.
Flatten each into a thin patty, about the size of your buns. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
Cook the Patties:
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. No oil needed if using a non-stick pan.
Place patties on the hot surface. Cook for about 2–3 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
Place a slice of American cheese on each patty during the last 30 seconds of cooking so it melts nicely.
Toast the Buns:
(Optional) Lightly butter the inside of each bun and toast on a skillet until golden and warm.
Assemble the Burger:
Spread a squiggle of ketchup and mustard on the top bun.
Add a few pickle chips and a spoonful of chopped onions.
Place the cheesy patty on the bottom bun, then sandwich everything together.
Serve hot—with crispy fries if you’re going all-in!
Serving and Storage Tips:
Serve Immediately: These burgers are best enjoyed hot off the pan.
Storing Leftovers: If you’ve made extra patties, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave.
Meal Prep Tip: You can shape the patties ahead of time and freeze them between parchment paper for quick weekday meals.
