Introduction
Your mattress is one of the most-used items in your home, yet it often gets overlooked when it comes to cleaning. Over time, dirt, sweat, dust mites, and even mold can accumulate, leading to unpleasant odors and potential health concerns. Fortunately, you don’t need harsh chemicals to freshen up your mattress—this simple, natural cleaning method will remove dirt, mold, and odors effectively.

By using a combination of household ingredients, you can keep your mattress fresh, clean, and allergen-free, ensuring a healthier sleep environment for you and your family.

Ingredients
1 cup baking soda (helps absorb moisture and neutralize odors)

10 drops essential oil (such as lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus for antibacterial properties)

½ cup white vinegar (natural disinfectant)

½ cup hydrogen peroxide (kills bacteria and mold)

1 tablespoon liquid dish soap (helps break down stains)

1 cup cornstarch (optional, for extra moisture absorption)

A vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment

A spray bottle

A soft-bristle brush or cloth

Instructions
Step 1: Vacuum the Mattress
Before applying any cleaning solution, use a vacuum cleaner with an upholstery attachment to remove dust, pet dander, and loose debris from the surface. Pay special attention to seams and crevices where dirt can accumulate.

Step 2: Apply the Baking Soda Mixture
In a small bowl, mix baking soda with a few drops of essential oil.

Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the entire mattress.

Let it sit for at least 30 minutes (or up to a few hours for a deeper clean) to absorb odors and moisture.

Step 3: Prepare the Cleaning Solution
In a spray bottle, combine white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and liquid dish soap.

Lightly mist the entire surface of the mattress, focusing on stained or moldy areas. Be careful not to soak the mattress, as excess moisture can lead to mold growth.

Step 4: Scrub Stains and Let Dry
Use a soft-bristle brush or cloth to gently scrub any stained areas.

Let the mattress air dry completely—this may take several hours. Speed up drying by opening windows or using a fan.

Step 5: Vacuum Again
Once the mattress is fully dry, vacuum it again to remove any remaining baking soda residue.

Serving and Storage Tips
Use a mattress protector to prevent future buildup of dirt, mold, and odors.

Vacuum your mattress monthly to maintain cleanliness.

Deep clean every 3-6 months or as needed.

Ensure complete drying before putting sheets back on to prevent mold growth.
