Onion Tea – A Soothing Remedy for Dry Cough

Introduction: Dry coughs can be both uncomfortable and persistent, leaving you seeking quick and effective remedies. While there are countless options available, one natural solution you may not have heard of is onion tea. Onions, long prized for their medicinal properties, contain compounds that have the ability to soothe a dry throat, reduce irritation, and promote overall respiratory health. In this article, we explore how onion tea can help alleviate the symptoms of a dry cough and provide an easy recipe to make it at home.

Ingredients:

1 medium onion (yellow, white, or red)

2 cups of water

1 tablespoon of honey (optional, for sweetness)

1 teaspoon of lemon juice (optional, for added vitamin C and flavor)

Directions:

Peel and chop the onion into small pieces or slices. The more finely you chop it, the more potent the tea will be.

In a saucepan, add the chopped onion and pour in the 2 cups of water.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes. The water will begin to turn a light golden color as it absorbs the flavor and nutrients from the onion.

Strain the liquid into a cup to remove the onion pieces. You can discard the onion bits or use them in another recipe.

Add honey and lemon juice to taste, stirring well. Honey helps soothe the throat, and lemon offers an extra boost of vitamin C.

Serving and Storage Tips:

Serving: Drink a warm cup of onion tea 2-3 times a day for relief from dry cough. It’s best consumed fresh, as the potency of the onion tea decreases with time.

Storage: If you have leftovers, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Simply reheat the tea before drinking. However, for maximum benefit, it’s best to consume the tea right after making it.
