Ingredients:
500g all-purpose flour
10g salt
50g sugar
10g dry yeast
300ml warm water
50g unsalted butter (softened)
1 large egg
1 tablespoon olive oil (for greasing)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for topping)
Directions:
Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, mix the dry yeast with 300ml of warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes, until it becomes frothy. This step ensures that the yeast is active and will give the buns their airy texture.
Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and the remaining sugar. Create a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture, softened butter, and the egg. Mix everything together until a sticky dough forms.
Knead the Dough:
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook if preferred.
First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Buns:
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth ball and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each one. Gently flatten the balls with your hand to form a bun shape.
Second Rise:
Cover the shaped buns with a damp cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake the Buns:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). If you want to add sesame seeds, brush the top of each bun with a little water or egg wash and sprinkle with seeds. Bake the buns for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Cool and Serve:
Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before slicing and assembling your burgers.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Serving:
Serve these freshly baked buns with your favorite burger patty, fillings, and condiments. They can be used for a variety of sandwiches or even for making sliders for a party.
Storage:
Once cooled, store the buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to 2 months. To revive frozen buns, simply warm them in the oven for a few minutes.
