"Nana’s Effortless Oven Rack Cleaning Hack That Actually Works!"

Introduction:

The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home—a place where meals are made, conversations flow, and memories are created. But let’s be real: nothing dampens the mood like a grimy oven. Oven racks, in particular, take the brunt of spills, splatters, and baked-on grease that builds up over time. Scrubbing them can feel like an impossible task. Fortunately, my nana passed down a no-sweat trick that makes oven racks look like new—with barely any elbow grease. If you’re tired of wrestling with stubborn grime, this method might just change your cleaning game forever.

Ingredients:

6 dryer sheets (yes, really!)

1/2 cup dishwashing liquid (preferably one that cuts grease, like Dawn)

Very hot water

A bathtub or large container

Old towels (optional, to protect your tub)

A sponge or soft cloth for light scrubbing

Instructions:

Prepare the soaking area: Lay old towels in the bottom of your bathtub to prevent scratching (optional but helpful).

Place oven racks in the tub: Carefully set your dirty oven racks in the tub.

Add dryer sheets: Lay about 6 dryer sheets over and around the racks.

Mix in dish soap: Add 1/2 cup of dishwashing liquid directly into the tub.

Fill with hot water: Run hot water into the tub until the oven racks are completely submerged.

Soak overnight: Let the racks soak for at least 6–8 hours, preferably overnight. The combination of dryer sheets and dish soap works to loosen the baked-on grease and grime.

Wipe and rinse: In the morning, use the soaked dryer sheets or a sponge to wipe away any remaining residue. You’ll be amazed at how easily it comes off!

Rinse and dry: Rinse the racks thoroughly with clean water and dry them completely before placing them back in your oven.

Serving and Storage Tips:

While this isn't a food recipe, there are a couple of practical "serving" and storage notes:

Timing: It’s best to clean your oven racks right after a major cooking event (like the holidays) or every few months to maintain shine and hygiene.

Storage: Keep your dryer sheets and dish soap on hand under the sink or in your laundry room so you’re always ready for a quick clean.
