Introduction
Mosquitoes can turn a relaxing evening into an itchy nightmare. While chemical repellents may work, they often come with strong odors, potential side effects, and a hefty price tag. But what if the most powerful mosquito killer was already sitting in your kitchen? This simple, natural solution is cost-effective, easy to make, and highly effective at keeping those buzzing pests away—without any toxic chemicals.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup warm water
1 teaspoon dry yeast (active or instant)
1 empty plastic bottle (1 or 2-liter size)
Instructions:
Prepare the bottle: Cut the plastic bottle in half. Keep both parts. You'll use the bottom half as the container and the top half as a funnel.
Mix the solution: Dissolve the brown sugar in the warm water. Once fully dissolved and cooled slightly (not hot), add the yeast. Stir gently.
Assemble the trap: Pour the mixture into the bottom half of the bottle. Invert the top half and place it like a funnel into the bottom part, without the cap.
Seal and position: You can tape the two parts together if you want a snug fit. Place the trap in a dark, humid corner where mosquitoes tend to gather—ideally away from where people sit.
How it works:
The sugar and yeast react to produce carbon dioxide, which mimics the human breath that attracts mosquitoes. When they fly in, they can't find their way out.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Where to place it: For best results, place one trap in each room or outdoor area where mosquitoes are a problem.
Longevity: Each trap lasts around two weeks. When the liquid becomes cloudy or stops bubbling, it's time to refresh the mixture.
Storage: Store unused yeast and sugar in a cool, dry place so you can easily make more traps as needed.
