Introduction:
Over time, even the most reliable washing machines can develop unsightly mold and detergent buildup in their drawers. This not only looks bad but can also affect your laundry’s freshness. Fortunately, there's a brilliant, easy method to clean your washing machine drawer and make it look brand new — without harsh chemicals! With a few household ingredients and a little effort, you can eliminate mold, grime, and lingering odors for good.
Ingredients:
1 cup white vinegar
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 old toothbrush or small scrubbing brush
Warm water
A few drops of dishwashing liquid
Soft cloth or sponge
Preparation:
Remove the Drawer: Gently pull out the detergent drawer as far as it will go. Most drawers can be fully removed by pressing down a small release tab.
Soak the Drawer: Fill a basin or sink with warm water, add the white vinegar, and a few drops of dish soap. Submerge the drawer and let it soak for about 30 minutes to loosen any hardened detergent and mold.
Scrub Away the Dirt: After soaking, use the toothbrush to scrub into all the nooks, crannies, and corners. Focus on areas with visible mold or residue buildup.
Use Baking Soda Paste: For stubborn spots, make a paste using baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply it directly onto the grime and scrub with the toothbrush.
Rinse Thoroughly: Wash off all soap and residue under warm running water.
Clean the Compartment: While the drawer dries, wipe down the inside of the machine’s drawer slot with a cloth soaked in vinegar. This will remove hidden mold and freshen the machine.
Dry and Replace: Dry the drawer completely with a clean cloth and slide it back into place.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Frequency: Clean your washing machine drawer at least once a month to prevent future buildup.
Post-Wash Care: After each laundry session, leave the detergent drawer slightly open to allow air circulation, reducing the chance of mold growth.
Quick Wipe: Regularly wipe the drawer with a damp cloth between deep cleans to keep it in top shape.
