Introduction
Orchids are among the most beloved houseplants due to their exotic beauty and elegant flowers. However, achieving abundant and long-lasting blooms can be a challenge without proper care. One of the key elements in maintaining a healthy and flourishing orchid is providing it with the right nutrients at the right time. Fertilize the orchid so that it blooms profusely and for a long time! This guide will show you how to create an effective, natural fertilizer using simple ingredients you may already have at home.
Ingredients:
To create a gentle, homemade orchid fertilizer, you'll need:
1 ripe banana
1 teaspoon of honey
1 liter of lukewarm water
Optional: 1 used black tea bag or green tea bag (for added micronutrients)
These ingredients provide potassium, phosphorus, and natural sugars—perfect for encouraging blooming and root development.
Preparation:
Peel the banana and mash it thoroughly in a bowl.
Add the honey to the mashed banana and mix well.
In a blender, combine the banana-honey mixture with 1 liter of lukewarm water. Blend until smooth.
(Optional) Steep the used tea bag in the mixture for about 5–10 minutes.
Strain the mixture using a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove solids.
Pour the liquid into a spray bottle or watering can for application.
Presentation and Storage Tips:
Apply the fertilizer once every two weeks during the active growing season (spring to early autumn).
Use it to water the roots or lightly spray the leaves in the early morning.
Store unused fertilizer in the refrigerator for up to one week in a sealed container. Shake well before each use.
Avoid over-fertilizing, which can harm the delicate roots of orchids.
