Anthuriums are striking plants, often appreciated for their vibrant flowers and elegant leaves. However, getting these tropical beauties to bloom regularly can sometimes be a challenge. Instead of relying on commercial fertilizers, which may not always provide the desired results, you can create a natural solution that encourages long-lasting flowering.
This recipe not only helps boost Anthurium flowering but also ensures your plant thrives for years. With the right ingredients and simple preparation, your Anthurium could stay blooming for up to 15 years!
Introduction
Anthuriums are an exotic treat for any plant lover, but keeping them blooming for a long time requires some special care. One of the most important factors in achieving abundant flowers is providing the right nutrients. While chemical fertilizers work, they often don't offer the long-term benefits of organic options. By making your own nutrient-rich plant food, you can enhance your Anthurium's vitality and ensure its longevity.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon of Epsom salt (Magnesium sulfate)
Magnesium is essential for photosynthesis and helps plants take up essential nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus.
1 tablespoon of bone meal
A rich source of phosphorus, which supports healthy root development and encourages strong blooms.
1 tablespoon of fish emulsion
Fish emulsion provides a boost of nitrogen, promoting lush foliage and overall plant growth.
1 teaspoon of seaweed extract
This helps the plant absorb minerals and trace elements while also promoting resistance to diseases.
1 liter of warm water
Water acts as the solvent to mix and activate the nutrients.
Preparation:
Prepare the water
Begin by heating 1 liter of water until it’s lukewarm. Warm water helps dissolve the nutrients more effectively.
Mix the ingredients
In a large container, add the Epsom salt, bone meal, fish emulsion, and seaweed extract. Stir gently until everything is well combined.
Allow to sit
Let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes to fully dissolve the nutrients. This ensures that your Anthurium receives a potent, well-balanced feed.
Strain (optional)
If the mixture has any solid particles left, you can strain it before use to prevent clogging the watering can.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Watering Frequency
Water your Anthurium with this solution every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). During the winter months, reduce the feeding to once a month.
Application
Pour the mixture directly onto the soil around the base of the plant. Avoid getting the solution on the leaves or flowers.
Storage
Store any leftover mixture in a cool, dark place for up to a month. If you notice any unpleasant odors or changes in consistency, discard and prepare a fresh batch.
