Why You Should Microwave a Cup of Vinegar — A Brilliant Kitchen Cleaning Hack

Introduction:
Cleaning the microwave is one of those chores many of us dread. Food splatters, dried sauce, and unpleasant odors can turn this essential appliance into a grime magnet. But what if there were a fast, natural, and incredibly effective way to loosen stubborn residue and deodorize your microwave—all with one simple ingredient? A woman’s clever trick of placing a cup of vinegar in the microwave has gone viral, and once you try it, you’ll understand why.

Ingredients:

1 cup of white distilled vinegar

1 cup of water

(Optional) A few drops of lemon juice or essential oil for added fragrance

Microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup

Clean sponge or cloth

Preparation:

Pour 1 cup of water and 1 cup of white vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup.

Optional: Add a few drops of lemon juice or essential oil to help neutralize the strong vinegar smell.

Place the bowl in the center of your microwave.

Microwave on high for 5 minutes. The mixture will steam up, softening food particles and greasy splatters.

Leave the microwave door closed for an additional 2–3 minutes to let the steam settle.

Carefully remove the bowl (it will be hot!) and use a clean sponge or cloth to wipe the interior. The grime should come off easily with no scrubbing required.

Serving and Storage Tips:
Though this isn’t a recipe for eating, the vinegar cleaning solution can be reused once or twice if stored in an airtight container and kept in a cool place. However, it’s most effective when freshly heated for steaming. Avoid reusing it too many times, as the vinegar loses potency over time.
