Introduction:
In the quest for a fresher, cleaner, and healthier home environment, natural remedies often outperform synthetic air fresheners. One surprisingly powerful combination? Lemon and baking soda. By simply placing a glass of lemon and baking soda in a room you often use — like the kitchen, living room, or bedroom — you can enjoy numerous benefits ranging from improved air quality to subtle aromatherapy. This DIY solution is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and backed by basic chemistry. Here’s how and why it works.
Ingredients:
1 fresh lemon (preferably organic)
2–3 tablespoons of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 small glass or bowl
Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or eucalyptus)
Optional: warm water (to enhance dispersion)
Preparation:
Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the glass.
Add the baking soda slowly into the juice. It will fizz — this is a good sign!
If desired, add a bit of warm water to create a slurry, or just leave the paste as-is for a slow-releasing effect.
Optionally, add a few drops of essential oil for enhanced fragrance.
Place the glass in a well-trafficked area of your home, preferably on a flat, safe surface.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Leave the mixture uncovered to allow the natural deodorizing properties to work.
Replace every 3–5 days or when the lemon scent fades and the baking soda becomes cakey.
Keep out of reach of children or pets, especially if you’ve added essential oils.
