Introduction:
For many households, especially during warmer months, flies become an unwelcome and persistent nuisance. After trying sprays, traps, and even essential oils for weeks with no success, one simple homemade remedy finally delivered a game-changing result. This natural fly repellent works within seconds and uses safe, everyday ingredients. After two months of frustration, this solution cleared the room in just one minute — and it might just do the same for you.
Ingredients:
½ cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon liquid dish soap (preferably lemon-scented)
10 drops of eucalyptus or peppermint essential oil
½ cup water (optional, to dilute if needed)
A small bowl or jar
Plastic wrap and a toothpick (optional for trap-style setup)
Preparation:
In a bowl or jar, mix together the apple cider vinegar and liquid dish soap. The vinegar attracts the flies, while the soap breaks the surface tension so they sink and can’t escape.
Add the essential oil. Peppermint or eucalyptus works especially well as a natural repellent and leaves behind a pleasant scent.
(Optional) Add water to slightly dilute the mixture if the vinegar scent is too strong indoors.
You can leave the bowl uncovered or cover it with plastic wrap. If using wrap, poke several small holes with a toothpick to allow flies to enter while preventing them from flying back out.
Serving and Storage Tips:
Place the bowl in high-fly-traffic areas such as the kitchen counter, near fruit bowls, trash bins, or windows.
For best results, prepare a fresh batch every 2–3 days.
Store any unused mixture in a sealed jar in a cool, dry place for up to a week.
