Understanding why women are unfaithful isn’t always straightforward, but a large-scale study sheds new light on the subject. According to research from the dating site Gleeden, several key reasons drive women to seek out a lover—and the findings might surprise you.
After interviewing 11,000 married women, the study discovered that most who have affairs (about 7 out of 10) actually prefer younger lovers, with an ideal age around 34. But the motivations behind infi:del:ity go much deeper than just age.
Main Reasons Women Choose to Have a Lover
A Boost in Self-Esteem
Many women said that having a younger lover made them feel more youthful and alive. They felt that younger men showed greater interest in their personal and professional lives—attention they didn’t always receive from men their own age.
Lack of Communication
Poor communication with a spouse or partner also played a big role. The study found that couples who talk less than half an hour each day were much more likely to experience infi:del:ity.
Feeling Unappreciated
Most participants said they were drawn to a lover because they no longer felt loved or valued in their marriage. Small acts of care and appreciation were missing, leaving them craving emotional connection.
Lack of Understanding
Some women reported that their partners didn’t show empathy or understand their feelings. The absence of emotional support pushed them to seek it elsewhere.
Revenge
For some, infi:del:ity was a form of retaliation. Women who were tired of their husbands’ unfaithful behavior chose to get even, rather than end the marriage.
Unmet Needs
Sometimes, women remain emotionally committed to their spouses but feel unfulfilled in private. To quietly satisfy these unmet needs, they may turn to a discreet affair while keeping up appearances at home.
Not Feeling Loved
One of the most common reasons given was simply not feeling loved. When daily life lacks gestures of affection or thoughtful attention, some women look outside their marriage to find the warmth they’re missing.
Just that—the reasons behind female infi:del:ity are often complex, rooted in emotional needs, lack of connection, and a desire to feel valued again.
