How ancient wisdom and modern comfort meet in the bedroom
A curious image has been making the rounds on social media: a dignified elderly woman with a serious expression, warning that placing your bed a certain way can “invite misfortune” into your life.
To some, it sounds like nothing more than superstition. But to others, especially those familiar with Feng Shui, it’s a reminder of how our living spaces can influence our rest, our mood, and even our sense of security.
The Bed Position That Raises Eyebrows
In Feng Shui — the ancient Chinese art of arranging spaces to promote health, prosperity, and balance — there’s one bed placement often called the “coffin position.”
This happens when the bed is arranged so that your feet point directly toward the door while you sleep.
In traditional belief, this layout resembles how the deceased are carried feet-first from a room, and it’s thought to symbolize the “exit” of your life energy, or Chi, while you rest.
What Feng Shui Says Could Happen
Feng Shui practitioners associate the coffin position with:
- Allowing Chi (life energy) to escape during the night
- Inviting financial strain or emotional turbulence
- Lowering the quality of rest, which can lead to stress or poor health
While these claims aren’t supported by scientific research, many followers of Feng Shui believe the symbolism alone can influence how you feel in your space.
